Rusty est orphelin depuis un raid indien. Lui et son chien Rin Tin Tin ont été adoptés par une unité de cavalerie de Fort Apache.
Cette série fut diffusée en France dès 1958 sur RTF Télévision. Elle fut tournée sur les lieux de tournage du Massacre de Fort Apache (1948) de John Ford.
